What inspired your score for 'Unfortunate Heiresses'?
"The music was created for this show with the adjectives dark, creepy and spooky in mind. I guess I would call it experimental music, though I love the freedom of sound being open and not defined narrowly by standard terms or categories... that said, I love Tom Waits, early Medieval music, The Dresden Dolls... and too many to list!
"How did you and Alex work together?"
"I picked a key and chose pizzicato, and Alex jumped in with piano and we just started playing. It is delightful working with Alex. Even though he is my teacher, when we work together he treats me as an equal. The really challenging thing about designing for a show is that you have to fit a set amount of time and with inflections that are needed for the show".
"How do you make space for music in your life?"
When I am home alone I don't watch T.V.. I listen with all my free time to music...and when I play, when I practice or take lessons, it is like a vacation from the rest of my life. I honestly don't think I could live without it..."
Are you pleased with the 'Unfortunate Heiresses' score?
"I really like it" said Kerri, "it's just weird enough to make me happy"!
Kerri Pidnow has played many instruments, but has happily settled down with the cello. These days she is playing with Big City Orchestra.
